Charles Nabit – Business Leader Active in His Community

Charles Nabit’s longstanding commitment to public service dates back to his college years. While pursuing his law degree, he provided legal aid representation through Student Legal Services. Now four decades into a successful career, Charles Nabit continues to give back through his family’s private foundation. He has also operated a mission-driven seed-to-plate restaurant in concert with a local educational nonprofit active in Baltimore and Washington, DC.

Charles (Chuck) Nabit’s public service has extended to board director positions with the Walters Art Museum, the B&O Railway Museum, University of Maryland Children’s Hospital, the BIC Educational Foundation, and other institutions and organizations. Among these is the University of the South, Mr. Nabit’s undergraduate alma mater.

Mr. Nabit graduated from the University of the South in 1977. On his way to completing his bachelor of arts with magna cum laude distinction, he earned several academic honors, including membership in Phi Beta Kappa.

Mr. Nabit subsequently enrolled at the Marshall-Wythe School of Law (since renamed William & Mary Law School). While pursuing his juris doctor, he served as an associate editor of the William & Mary Law Review and wrote an article that was later published in the law journal Enforcement of Judgements and Liens in Virginia. In 1980, he graduated ninth in a class of 134 students.

Charles Nabit began his career with the Baltimore law firm Venable, Baetjer and Howard. Starting out in the firm’s corporate department, he later switched his focus to real estate, where he built knowledge in topics such as commercial and industrial real estate development, zoning laws, civil litigation, and commercial and multi-family tax appeals.

Mr. Nabit later drew on this real estate experience as the managing partner of the Westport Group. There, he oversees the investment partnership’s real estate interests, among other investments. He is also the president of a private family foundation and the chairman and chief executive officer of Southport Financial, a firm active in the financial services and healthcare industries.
